The Argonne Wakefield Accelerator or AWA research
focuses upon the physics and technology of advanced methods to accelerate
charged particles.The goals is to
identify and to develop techniques which may lead to more efficient,
compact, and inexpensive particle accelerators.
The AWA facility is supported by the DOE's
HEPD Section for Technology Development, and is specifically designed for
accelerator research which requires intense, short pulse electron beams.
Examples include wakefield acceleration, generation
of high power cm wavelength rf, and
beam-driven plasma-based techniques.
We welcome collaborators from within Argonne
and other institutions.
An article titled
“Electron Gun Development at Argonne National Laboratory” written by John
Power, in collaboration with John Lewellen of Argonne’s ONR Project
Office, has appeared in the August 2008 issue of Beam Dynamics
Newsletter.

A number of AWA members attended the 13th Advanced Accelerator Concepts Workshop
(AAC08) in Santa Cruz, CA. "Congratulations" to Feng
Gao and Marwan Rihaoui for winning the students
poster competition in their respective Working Groups.
